Well, i got to sit in one...(Patriot)

Comfortable driver's seat, i fit decent in the back seat (6'1" with boots on)
Cargo area and interior size are comperable to my cherokee.

Wasnt allowed to drive either one they had (both were 4x2 limiteds and they were both in the showroom... plus the sales manager knows me too well)

When they get more in, i plan on driving one around town a little bit.

When they get a 4x4 FD2 sport, i'll take 'er out for a few hours all around, take the family, etc.

they said the next 4 they're getting are sport 4x4, but the build sheets dont say fd2.

ironically, these two were like opposite twins.
Equipped the exact same, priced the exact same, just one was white/tan and the other was black/grey.
Sequential VIN's too

I know that you're not in the market for a Compass but the ride, handling and performance of the Compass with FD I is going to be the same as the Patriot. The only difference will be the sheet metal and the view of your surroundings with the more rectangular windows of the Patriot, otherwise same engine, transmission, drive train, chassis, suspension, ground clearance, interior, yada, yada. It could be worth your while to take a quick trip in one. Don't forget to wear a disguise. Don't want any of your friends to see you in a Compass.

We drove a sport 4x4 with auto trans.....didnt like the CVT thing.
Space: Lots of it.
Lateral support in front...Great.
Dash....Very Long.

Cargo hole at hatch: Kinda short but opens up inside.
Back seat...very roomy.

CVT....Blah...dont like it....

Ordering a Limited 4x4 Black with five speed and moon roof.
Leather interior.

FD II only comes in auto.....not gettin that. FD I will do.
I really like the Patriot and hope it holds up.

sat in a patriot the other day (at a car show). Found it.... interesting to say the least. Reminded me a lot of my XJ... just wish it was higher.

I know for a fact it doesn't have solid axle up front, but (haven't done much of any research on it) is it fwd, rwd, awd (option?)? If it is rwd or at least awd then I will be taking a close look at for the next DD....

The MK platform (Compass/Patriot) have as standard FWD. Optional are the Freedom Drive I (on both) and Freedom Drive II (Patriot w/ CVT2L Only). Both of the Freedom Drive packages are on demand AWD with a 4WD lock lever that splits the torque 50/50 between front and rear wheels when needed.

Ground clearance on the FWD is 8", FD I is 8 1/2" and FD II is 9".

For more information, go here:

Select "* Get Ready" and then select "See How Jeep 4 Wheel Drive Systems Work"

I sat in a few at the Atlanta Auto show and came up with a similar conclusion. It had great room (leg/hip/head) in the front and rear. Better rear leg room than a commander which is sad. and better rear head room than a JK. Much more usable room than my XJ . I think it would be a great commuter car I really liked the styling in person. of course I couldnt drive one at the car show but 172hp with a manual has to be fun. It will never be an off road god but i'd take one over an HHR or other similar car anyday.

thats what i was thinking.
By the time i'd be getting it, it would be my commuter/work car, plus we could drive it on our monthly trips from albuquerque to el paso.

It would give me the chance to build up the cherokee like i want and make it a weekend/play/camping rig.

I havent done that much to the cherokee now since we've only had it, since my wife's car's been getting worked on... slowly... whenever her uncle is sober.

If you get one with a CVT, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it will run on the open road.

i swear i posted this in this thread...

get this, local dealers are charging a $4500 OVER MSRP premium on the patriots, since they're so limited.

One dealer had one when i drove by, the other supposedly has two including a white sport with FD2, but i didnt see them when i was out in that area.

It looks like they're stocking up on the FD2 equipped ones though, my contact at the jeep dealer in el paso said all of the ordered 4x4s (for the lot, not customer order) are ordered with fd2

Frankly I'm very surprised that they are ordering them with the FD II simply because many of the posts have been negative towards the CVT2. You adapt to the CVT, it's really quite nice when you get over the fact that it doesn't "bang" every time it shifts leaving you with the impression that it's slower than it really is.

Most of the first Calibers were shipped with the CVT and the Compass had a better split with the 5 speeds on introduction, relatively speaking.

I do take it as good news for those who may want to some what modify their FD I's, the parts my be appearing on the shelves to add on.
