US Head Unit Comared to UK one

What head unit is fitted to the US models. I seem to remember that its different to the UK ones as it has an aux-in socket allowing you to connect an iPOD. The UK model is RAR it is a 6 CD version and where the aux connector is on the US models is a SET/DIR button. If the US model is different does it have different features? I wonder why different models are used for UK and US. I was thinking of finding a US one on ebay and swapping them as I want an aux in socket.

There are 3 different units in the US and maybe that many in the export models. They have different tuning frequencies as the major differences. If you installed a US version in a UK model it would not tune in properly. The dealership may be able to reprogram it but I'm not sure.

The US versions are:

REF AM/FM/CD (single disc) with optional Satellite radio and hands free phone capability. This also has the AUX input that you mentioned.

RAQ AM/FM/CD (6-disc) with optional satellite radio, hands free phone and Vehicle Entertainment Systems (VES) capability but no AUX connection.

REC AM/FM/CD (6-disc) with optional satellite radio, hands free phone and navigation system but no AUX input.
