Unconfirmed dealer news regarding Compass

A post on Allpar.com reports that dealers have been told the Compass will be discontinued. This was in a video conference. No timeline has been stated. Other news were highlights regarding styling of the next 300, Charger and Grand Cherokee. Sebring sedan is supposed to go but convertible will stay.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I thought the Compass fans here might want to know.

Bummer if so. Maybe if they had the interior designed the way it is now as opposed to the way it originally was, it would have sold better... Well, before I stick my foot in my mouth, I'll look at sales figures... My only perception of sales is here and well... yeah, a lot of 'em here aren't too receptive to it. I see more Sebring sedans than anything else around this town, it looks much nicer than the Avenger!

Won't be the first I've owned a vehicle that only been around for a handful of years. ('86 Ford EXP, '92 Geo Storm, '98 Escort ZX2)

So is this thread out the window now? Considering the other thread posted: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/patriot-compass-concepts-paris-motor-show-611338/

Are the two concepts mutally exclusive? I mean, I have heard there are going to discontinue the Compass, but certainly they are making the 2009 Compass....

One thought on Allpar is that the Compass will disappear at the end of the current product cycle. Meaning there will not be a Compass after 2011. I have owned two XJ Cherokees so I obviously like square looking Jeeps but I personally like the overall idea of the Compass better than the Patriot. Three, no four things would make it great in my eyes. New front end, regular rear door handles, bigger rear side glass ( smaller D pillar) and spend the money for retesting and replace the steering wheel now that the rest of the interior is updated. The angular spokes on the steering wheel really looks out of place with the more rounded theme inside.

If they discontinue the Compass it just shows how clueless Jeeps new owners are. Jeeps dealer's lot are chuck full of WK's and XK's even with up to 8 grand off the sticker. Each Compass not sold has the potential of being another Forester, Tucson or CR-V sold by their competitor. I personally like the shape of the Patriot but a sizable % of potential Compass buyers are going to be more likely to buy a car-like crossover. Just look what the Santa Fe did for Hyundai - I traded my 01 Grand Cherokee (loved driving the vehicle, hated owning it once the power train warranty ran out) for a 03 Santa Fe, Hyundai has made a killing on them (sorry but they are really well built )
Hopefully the bean counter will figure out that selling both will be cost effective for Jeep.

Hope I won't step on any toes here since I don't own a Patriot or Compass but here is what I wish the Compass looked like. The first is a photo of a package Startech offered aftermarket for the Compass in Europe. Looks much more like the concept did. The second is a bad alteration I did of the side of the Compass. Rear door handle and smaller D pillar/larger side glass. I tweaked the front slightly to reflect a more slanted front the Startech nose would offer.

^ Nice Photoshop job. I do like that rear window more than I already have. That being said, I still haven't found it to be that much of a blind spot for me. I may just be getting used to it though. It's the thick front A-pillars that still give me in trouble here and there. (I've pulled up to 4-way stop signs, and not once seen the vehicle pulling up on the right.)

At this point, nothing would surprise me. None of the US automakers is in good shape right now and all of them are scrambling to figure out what the next generation cars will have to be. Chryslers announcement about the EVs means that the product lines are going to shrink in variety but be expanded in powertrain....

I have noticed the same thing with A-pillars on other new vehicles. Aerodynamics, curtain airbags and higher roof strength requirements have positioned a wider A-pillar in a bad location visibility wise. Makes me love my XJ Cherokee all the more.

I talked to a Dodge salesman this past week and he told me Dodge will NOT make a Caliber AWD model in 09. Only FWD. I've also heard (not from a dealer) that there will be NO AWD Avenger as well. I hope Jeep keeps making the Compass in 4x4 or I'll have to go Subbie when my lease is up on the Compass. What is Chrysler thinking??

The salespersons at dealerships know less about their vehicles than we do. They just know the basic stuff. I found that out when I was buying my Compass.
