It's actually a tidal saltmarsh and that is the main river channel at the boat launch. The Atlantic Ocean is actually right behind those houses on the right you see in the photo. The tide is just high so it looks sort of lakeish I guess.

What wiring do you have? Is it the Draw-Tite T-ONE? I might be able to save you some hassle on wiring it if you let me know what you have for a wiring kit.
