Tow Prep Package for '12 Patriot

How much can I expect to pay for the tow package? If I want to be able to tow only 1,000 lbs? 2,000 lbs? I have the Latitude 4x2 with the 2.4L. Thanks!

Hi Trooper, welcome. A Mopar wiring harness shows $134 + installation, the engine oil cooler shows ~150 (on ebay) + installation. An aftermarket hitch is ~300 including installation, as Mopar hitches appear to be on permanent backorder. I have the tow package on my Compass, have towed close to its 2000# rating a couple of times, and find it to tow very capably, albeit with the drop in MPG that you'd expect. So...for 1000#, you'd probably want the wiring harness and hitch (maybe 500-600 total) and for 2000# you'd likely want to add the engine oil cooler (perhaps another 300 or so, depending on labor to install). Only thing you wouldn't get is the full size spare. Happy towing!

My pleasure, it's towing ability was a major factor in my decision to buy one of these jeeps. Drive safe!

The tow prep package is $250 if you get it on the vehicle when you buy it. This gets you the wiring harness (I have read in other threads that it is not installed), the oil cooler (installed), and a full size spare tire.

Here is the oil cooler if you want to DIY. My local dealer sells the same part for $165.

There is no reason (IMO) to pay for the OEM jeep kit. You can get the trailer wiring at etrailer.com for $65 or under.

Of course this is all only the tow prep, so you'll still have to add the hitch.
