tow hooks for compass
Does anyone know if they make tow hooks for the compass yet? I am looking for a set like the one that come on the patriot fd II. I Plan to do some off road testing but I want to be able to pull myself out with a winch if I get stuck. Thanks Jay

There are no cut outs in the fascias for tow hooks on the Compass. For the rear, I plan on using one that goes on the receiver and figure something else out for the front.
If you go, pictures PLEASE!!

source says that front mount reciever hitches for both the compass, and non fd2 patriot are in the design and testing stages.
that would be a more then adaquate front recovery point.

These are pics of the front fascia and bumper structure of the Compass and Patriot. The factory tow hooks mounts directly in front of the frame rails to the bottom of the bumper on the Patriot where they put a convenient hole in the fascia to get to it. On the Compass the closest access threw the fascia is just inboard and would still make a good place for tow hooks. If you were just looking to get by with out doing a permanent mount, you would need a hook on the end of your strap/cable with an 1 ¼ “ opening to connect to the back side of the bumper. (some pictures moved, see post 9 for Fascia removal Instructions).

Sorry, I don't have the part numbers yet. I'll be gathering that kind of info in about 2 weeks when I get my next oil change. I think that I'm just going with moving them inboard on mine. There may be some kind of universal tow hook and mount that may work well, too.

gramps, something to seriously seriously consider is, on unibody vehicles, most of the time, any tow hooks that are to be mounted, need to be mounted on brackets that distribute the lateral force to several points on the chassis.
For example. This is a cherokee tow hook kit with brackets: heres a zj grand hook kit: ![]() On the cherokee one, theres at least 4 bolts that distribute the lateral force, including one several inches down the frame rail as the other three. if you look at your posted pic of the hook, theres a couple of bolts holding the bracket onto the frame. you may need to look at the bracket and see if the holes exist on the compass frame. please dont use universal kits, because thats just asking for trouble. You'll have to drill two holes thru whatever part of the frame you can get to, and you'll have all the lateral force on those two bolts, which will very likely just rip thru the weak sub frame on your first use.

To gain full access to the Bumper/Frame Rails, you’re going to need to pull all of the Front fascia off. Here’s what to look for:
Picture 1. Remove the fascia (2) to splash shield screws (1). Picture 2. Remove the lower fasteners (4) and disconnect the electrical connectors (2 and 3). Compass Picture 3 1. Remove the fasteners (1 and 2). 2. Remove the push pin fasteners (3). 3. Loosen the fasteners (5 and 6) and remove the fascia (4). Patriot Picture 4 1. Remove the push pin fasteners (6) from the wheel wells. 2. Remove the screws (5) from the wheel wells. 3. Remove the screws (3). 4. Remove the push pin fasteners (1 and 2) and remove the fascia (4).

The Tow Hooks used on the Patriot are part number is 5067532AA and list at $17.45. We could not find a pic in the parts manuals and they may resemble the ones for the Cherokee that madrabbit posted above in #7.

I plan on buying the tow hook that fits in the receiver mount for the rear. The fronts are shown below for the Patriot and I'll be installing those too as time, etc permit. I can extract the dimensions from the cutouts that have been posted on another site for the Patriot and come up with where I'll need to cut the Compass bumper. From what I can tell these do NOT attach to the bumper itself but to the frame horns (for lack of a better term).

This month in Jeep history -6/30/07: I started giving the Compass some serious consideration as a replacement for my 06 Wrangler Unlimited once my lease was up.
