thermostat(s) gasket leaks

The smaller thermostat which seats right up against the head was bought as OEM. After three years the gasket started to leak, you can see small amount of coolant fluid below it and on top of the tranny.
This is not an installation problem, the round white gasket has become weak and "crumbling", it also compressed somewhat ( new thickness; .200; the one removed; .015)
It is not a nasty job to replace it but maybe you will prevent an overheat.
hope this helps
P.S. would be same 2.0 L gas as my Caliber, 2.4 L maybe same too but not sure.
