Starting problems

I have an 07 compass limited with 4x4. a lot times when I pull and turn off the car for a couple of minutes and hop back in, the car will not start on the first try, on the second try it hesitates and then catches and starts. Anyone else have this problem

sometimes mine does that. I was due for new plugs anyway so I went ahead and changed them, didn't really make a noticable difference. Could just simply be flooding out from already having fuel in the system and then starting again so soon with the auto choke. I know it sounds strange for a fuel injection engine to flood out, but it's possible

I only have 24k on it, not time to change the plugs yet. Anyone else have the problem and got it fixed

Does it NOT want to spin over or does it crank without firing?

I thought of this too. The chip in the key is starting to go bad? Try a different key.

There are too many listings in the FSM to list on here and all require a scan tool to read the DTC.

The only one that I saw that mentioned an intermittent fail like your having has to do with the Transmission Range Selector and the Totally Integrated Power Module. The next time it happens try wiggling the gear shift to see if the connection there could be faulty. Otherwise you'll need to start checking for bent or corroded pins on those connectors.

Do you have access to someone who can pull up the codes? If we had a code we can get the circuits posted up for you.

Other causes, but they don't mention "intermittent" are:

SHORT TO GROUND ON (F100) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN) CIRCUIT
SHORT TO GROUND ON (F929) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN) CIRCUIT
A/C HEATER CONTROL
COMPASS MODULE
SHORT TO GROUND ON THE (F996) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT
SHORT TO GROUND ON THE (F985) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT
SHORT TO GROUND ON THE (A999) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT
SUNROOF MOTOR
A/C POWER OUTLET
REAR WIPER MOTOR
DOME LAMP
INVERTER MODULE
(F937) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN) SHORTED TO GROUND
(F936) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN) SHORTED TO GROUND
HEATED SEATS MODULE
CABIN HEATER RELAY NUMBER 1
CABIN HEATER RELAY NUMBER 2
(F901) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (UNLOCK-RUN-START) CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
TERMINAL DAMAGE OR CORROSION
HIGH RESISTANCE ON THE (F200) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN-START) CIRCUIT
OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)

I have a 5 speed, I will try using a different key for a while, but would it still crank and not fire if any of the those things were the problem. I do not get an engine light problem, so would there still be codes.

Yes, there could still be a code, just not an MIL. According to the FSM all of those things mentioned above will fall under 5 or so different "Bxxxx" codes with several possibilities in each group.
