Yes, great minds, same gutter! Mine won't get here until Monday and that's the youngest daughters B-day (26). I may get them out of the box but won't be able to fit them until Tuesday.

Thule actually makes one that they call the MOAB.

theres a really awesome rack basket i've seen at the accessory place... but like 500 bucks.
since the jeep i had at the time didnt have a factory rack, i decided to go with a hitch mount instead.

now... i have no hitch, but rails... so oops

Installing HID's in stock housings is bad.

now THATS funny. but i'm thinking that it's a bit MORE than the one i got. i sat it up on my sport bars today just to see what it looked like. pretty sweet, if you ask me. also, i was concerned about the height and my garage. NO PROBLEM. from ground to top of sport bars......69.0". with the basket installed.......75.75"! of course, this is BEFORE doing the lift kit. so even if it max's out at 78.0", i'm still under my 84.0" garage door opening.

Looks good - not sure my Rallye would look at good with a roof basket....

I'd also rather it sat farther back on the roof too (position 2 and 4) - I kinda like to see out of my sunroof

That roof basket looks great!!

I've been breaking in my new Compass with a great ole american road trip thru the Pacific Northwest. I ended up picking up a Yakima Skybox 12s for $300 (Floor Display Model) The 12s is a narrow front box, so I still have enough room on the sport bars for a bicycle or two.

This is in Yellowstone National Park.

Any time!

I got my basket yesterday and tried a test fit tonight. I need to make a little 4 1/2" extension so that they will fit the way that I want and attach to the bars at positions 2 & 4. Easy to do if I can find the right material. In that position it will be right behind the sun roof and stop right in front of the spoiler and give a couple inches of clearance with the hatch open. Details to come.

The farthest apart that these brackets can go is 30", between each fixed position on the Compass is 17 1/4", so skipping a position, either 1 -3 or 2 -4 is 34 1/2". Since the spacing on the bars on the basket is 3 1/2" you could go with either the 4 1/2" like I did or go another 3 1/2" for a total of 8" extension. Length differences: Stock 44.75"; 4 1/2' = 49.25"; 8" = 52.75". Here's a picture of the gap.

I found some free 1" aluminum tubing and used my jig saw to split it so that I could collapse it and drive it all the way in to the each tube of the same size tube on the basket. (sorry for the crummy picture).

Here they are installed on half of the basket. The other half of the baskets tubes are made to slide in to the 1" tube. I then drilled and used sheet metal screws on the top and bottom to hold it all together.

Inside and outside of the clamp brackets.

The extensions.

Finished product.

Sunroof area and Hatchback clearance. Argent33 - these are for you. I think that we can safely go with the 8" extesion and still enjoy our sunroofs!

"GRAMPS"

i'm sending you some more pics on how MY basket mounted. my rubber spacers are different than yours......looked yours had a space in between the flat bracket and the spacer that allows the spacer to collapse. you can post my pics here too if you like. my rack needs to be about 1 1/-2" longer to mount properly.....i think.

YAY!

Thanks for the pics Gramps thats mildly annoying that the basket doesn't fit the spacing on the Compass without modifications....

In the instructions it says to move the cross bars until they line up for the basket brackets. That may work on everything else but we only have 4 positions to choose from. I kinda expect to have to Mac Giver most mods on the Compass and this was a pretty easy one. It's still a Jeep Thing and the Compass is unique!
