Security Horn

When you lock the door with the remote on your key...it causes the horn to beep.

Does anyone know how to silence this?

I've tried reading the manual and it says to hold the lock botton for 3-5 seconds then press the unlock botton. I've tried this in so many different ways and the horn still won't turn off while locking my door with the keyless entry.

If you have the Drivers Convenience Group it's in the Personal Settings in the EVIC. If not maybe someone else can help.

It's a known problem (or should be anyway), next time it's in for service have them turn it off, it has to be done through the StarScan thing if I remember correctly. This is only for the vehicles without the EVIC.

Pardon my ignorance...what is a EVIC

I probably do not have it if I don't know what it is.

I drive the Compass 2X4 with very minimal options.

Electronic Vehicle Information Center. It's part of the Driver Convenience group. Compass, temp, radio display, Tire pressure Monitoring. Also has a personal settings display that you can use to change how long the lights stay on, unlock the doors or not, change the compass offsets, change languages and some other stuff.

Could you please tell me where in the owners manual you found the instructions for turning off the horn beep when locking the doors with the remote. I do not see it in the manual and I'd like to try it and see how I make out.

It's in section 2, page 26, under To lock the doors and tailgate:

"... If desired, the "Sound Horn On Lock" feature can be turned on or off....On non EVIC - equipped vehicles perform the following steps:
1. Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.

Repeat to re-enable the horn.

Thanks Gramps..... I can't get over how one can read something so many times and still miss what one is looking for.

Maybe I should get those eyeglasses checked again.

IMO the Owners Manual is way too wordy and section 2 reads like scrambled eggs. Give me a "cut to the chase" tech manual any day. If I can't find it in the index I head for section 2. The "Traction Control section" is also very hard to read with vehicle this and vehicle that. Maybe it was translated from German.

Sure happy that I had my cataracts taken care of about 5 years ago.

I am also having a problem with the "horn on lock" function. Does anyone else have another idea?

You could disconnect the horn and then just make a rude gesture at those that annoy you. Has anybody asked the dealers about this?

I've left mine on because the wife likes it when she uses the Compass and I don't, so I just use the switch on the drivers door.
