Seat Belt Alarm, a different issue

Hi, I'm a newbie, so please be gentle with me.

I've read everything on how to cancel the seat belt alarm, and think anyone should be free to go without a seatbelt as long as they put a 6 inch spike on their steering wheel. Option of a cork on the end for safety!

The compass I've bought has obviously been messed with, the alarm sounds when I'm wearing the belt and is silent if I take it off while the engine is running. It sounds to me like some wires/sensor have been swapped over. So at present I'm driving round with my seat belt on and the alarm sounding!

Does anyone have any idea of what may have been done, as I obviously wish to correct it?

You might try the procedure for turning it off. That may enable it again. This post has instructions. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/2.../#post15488658
Or Google search the procedure.

I've tried to disable the alarm, but it is confusing because the belt needs to reel in to turn the warning light off so can not be buckled. I tried using the passenger belt in the buckle but still couldn't get it to disable.

It is a 2010 compass if that helps.

Since it's a safety issue, I'd check with the dealer service department. They can probably reset it with their scan tool.

pete,
as jacko showed you by his link
1) Plug seatbelt in.
2) Turn key to the on position, engine off. Wait for seatbelt light to go off,
3) Undo and redo the seatbelt 3 times, leaving it buckled the last time. (When you undo and re-do the seatbelt the three times, you actually have to put the seat belt all the way back to the post its mounted to)
4) Turn the key off and you should hear a chime indicating that you disabled the chime.
this 100% works, i did this 2 years ago and never had to do it again.
Edit: here's a random youtube video showing the same process

Is there a way to turn off just the passenger belt alarm? It's really annoying to have to engage the passenger seat belt every time I put a two pound package on the seat.
