Replacing a broken tail light?

I broke my tail light this week and I would like to save some money and replace it myself, but I can't get it out. There are two black, for lack of better term, "pins" holding it in place and I don't know the proper way to remove them. Has anyone else removed a Compass tail light before? Any tips? Thanks for any help.

Pages 358 and 359 in your owners manual outline the proceedure for removing the tailight assembly to change the bulbs. Typically the push pins used to secure those types of things have a center pin that pulls out a bit to release the fastener.
