Problems: manual shift lever

Hey everyone.

I’m beginning to have a few repeat issues with my manual shifter.

In the mornings, when I’m getting ready to go to work, it’s almost impossible to get it into first gear. I usually have to declutch a few times and other times I have to slide it into reverse before I go into first. Either way, it’s not a smooth shift into first at all and remains stiff/notchy for a while.

To be honest, it's always felt notchy and at times you need to apply a bit of force to get in gear. My brother in-law has the same vehicle and feels much better, even though his has more mileage.

However, my shifter doesn't grind. It just feels like something is literally blocking the shift lever from moving into first. Never makes a grinding sound.

Vehicle spec: 2007 Compass sport 2.4 with 5 speed manual

Any ideas?
