Looking at a new Patriot, and the dealer is offering 2500 off or the gas card.

I am more looking at the rebate, but is it possible to get more off then that?

The gas card is a risk-reward thing. Every article I've seen saying it isn't worth it is calculating the value based on the price of gas when the article was written. The one crod linked to says you save $400/year if the price of gas stays at $3.61/gallon. Gas jumped from $3.69 to $3.92 here since last weekend. So that would give you another $150 or so a year. It's hard to tell what gas is going to do (that's the risk), but looking at recent trends, there's no ceiling in sight. It could easily be $5 or $6/gallon by the time the promotion ends. That would make it much more valuable than the rebate.

I got a price from another local dealer about 40 miles away. MSRP was 19500, the internet price was 18,400-2500 rebate, putting it down to $15,948. Do you think there is any more wiggle room. The saleman on the phone said it was a few hundred below invoice

It sounds like a good deal but we need to know the Model (Sport or Limited) and what options.
