Here is a video of the new LR2.....skip ahead and you'll see it work thru some mud. Will the Patriot be able to handle this as easily? Will it handle more?

LR2 is a replacement to the Freelander, let's compare that to a Patriot

2005 Freelander has independent suspension, 174hp 2.5L V6 (that's one small V6), and 7.3" of ground clearance.
Patriot has independant suspesnion, 172hp, and 9" of ground clearance.... Seems like a good fight.

Of all of these listed, only the Toyota Tacoma is off road capable. The Tacoma, can also be easily upgraded suspension and driveline wise to tackle a Rubicon like trail.

The Patriot is made to compete (on the market) in the compact SUV class. Such as the Toyota RAV4, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Sportage, Honda CRV, etc. But comparing it offroad with anything but the Suzuki would be pointless.

...that's for the regular cab. It can not haul 5 people (legally).
