Patriot transmission VIN location

We have a 2008 Jeep Patriot and recently had the transmission changed, or so we thought. We have since been told that the shop may not have changed it but rather "worked" on the original. We need to locate where the VIN is stamped on the tranny to verify this. The local "dealer" says they don't put it on there, but from the info we have found, it is federal law that all major parts have the VIN number stamped on them in some way to track stolen parts. PLEASE HELP
Any info on where that number is at on the tranny would be welcomed.

See figure 3 to see a tag location. That may help you get oriented.
