Patriot tire size question

I just bought my wife a 2013 Patriot limited 4x4 and need to find out how big of tires I can clear. I have a rare set of Rays chrome blue rim set that will look great on it but they are 18x9.5 +12 offset. How big of tire can I put on these and not rub at stock height? I have been playing with a tire size calculator and looks like I can get a 255/55/18 on it.... any forseeable problems? Thanks

Without a lift and or wheel spacers, at least using the OE wheels...

Max Height/Overall Diameter(OD) = 28.5"
Max Section Width(SW) = 9"( and you may experience slight rub at max steering lock 8.75 and less is better )

Largest 17" that will fit as a rule with no rubbing is a 225/65R17 which is a 28.5" OD / 8.85" SW tire. If you can get an 18 that will come out to the same basic spec's, or less, it should fit.

Sorry, no idea on those wheels and offset.

Don't forget that your speedo will be off as well. If you go larger than the biggest stock tire size of P215/65R17( 28.0" OD / 8.46" SW )the speedo can't be adjusted accurately. The Patriot/Compass only allows for changes to stock sizes period unlike other models/brands where you can enter custom tire spec's to adjust the speedo. Also, no aftermarket support for speedo calibration( handheld tuners )either..

So if you can get an 18 that is the same OD as one of the stock sizes( or very close )you will be fine. If not you will have to set it to the closest stock size and then use a GPS to find out the difference.

I am running 225/65R17 tires on my Patriot. I had the speedo adjusted to the largest stock size of P215/65R17. When my speedo says I am going 60 MPH I am actually going 61.8 MPH. That is as close as I can get it.

Nothing has changed from my original post on tire sizes. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/o...ml#post4104384

Thanks for the info, the tires will fit height wise based on gramps max tires of 235/60/18, I just have to deal with just under a inch of with difference. The speedo is not really an issue, I use speedo cal boxes all the time, takes an hour to install and about an hour to finite cal them

Thanks the info NHPatriot

Where are you getting a speedo calibration device that is compatible with a Patriot/Compass? I have looked high and low, as have many others, and one has never been found that is compatible. If you actually have a device that can work with these vehicle please post some info( mfg, model #, web site, etc... ).

First one under google search.... there are several out there, this type requires you do a bit of work to cal it..... its not hard, ran several on other trucks and race cars.... several different brands, I haven't used this one but its the basic idea what to look for

I understand what they are the point is no one has ever found one that will work with a Patriot/Compass. Not that I have seen anyway and when I have checked with the various aftermarket companies that makes these things, like the one you show, they are not compatible with the Patriot/Compass.

If you get one and it actually works post the mfg and model and what it took for it to work because there are a ton of owners that would like to do the same( me included - I have oversized tires ).
