Its been around for decades... and because of it, most of the kinks have been eliminated. Its just a good strong design, they run forever, and their simple to fix. There's a million parts for them (kinda like the chevy and ford small blocks) and they have good low end tq. The inline design is inherently better at providing TQ.
Most CJ/YJ/TJ/XJ jeepers will say something similar. There were alot po'd when the JK got the V6.
