Patriot or Compass for my situation?

Hey Everyone, I am graduating from EMU this year and have been accepted by Toledo Law. I plan on commuting 45-50 minutes both ways to class 5 days a week, and was looking into buying a jeep. Being a college student and buying the car with loans my options are a 2007-2008 Compass or Patriot. I have always driven small cars (escort and focus), and really want someone that will get rid of the stress of driving in the Michigan SNOW!. I will be purchasing the jeep with 4x4, but was wondering what people think the best choice would be for a college student such as myself. I also want the car to last for a couple years after law school, so at least 5-6 years. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help! SO, 2007-2008 Patriot 4x4 or Compass 4x4?

They are the same car. Same engine, transmission, frame, everything accept the body appearance.. So buy which ever one you like the look of better and which ever one you can find with the most options for the cheapest price

um...hmmm...well I own a 2008 patriot sport 4x4, but it depends on the model really.... Ill put it this way....

2008 Patriot limited > 2008 Compass limited

2008 patriot < 2008 compass

2011 Patriot > 2011 Compass (no matter what)

Like i said It really all depends on the options they have on them for me. If the compass has huge off road lights and completely decked out with aftermarket parts then for me, no matter what i like the look of them better! But to me the patriot looks more like "a real jeep" because its boxy!...but Its all up to you really! Go check them out in person!

In my personal opinion, the Patriot gets the nod in the looks department. The 2011 redesign did wonders for the Compass (at least in the pictures I've seen - 2011 vehicles will only be available in Finland in the fall), but it still looks more like any other CUV out there and less like a Jeep than the Patriot. And the older year model Compasses look just weird to me. But hey, that just me - some people prefer a Compass over a Patriot and there's nothing wrong with that.

The boxy design of the Patriot may make the rear hatch slightly better for loading large items in the cargo space.

The more aerodynamic design of the Compass may slightly improve its fuel economy?

But seriously, asking on a web forum which vehicle you should like more? You'd be much better off visiting dealerships, taking both the Patriot and Compass for test drives, and thinking things through for yourself. Or, just choose the one you get a better deal on.

Take the one that has both front control arms already replaced.

Test drive both models, if you are tall or like room the Patriot maybe a better fit. My wife and I are fairly tall and felt that the Compass was too small as well the Patriot rides higher in our opinion (we traded our 1991 Laredo) and we liked that. Winter driving in both models are great. Storage wise the Patriot had more room. My thoughts...Either way you'll do well in what ever model you choose.
