Patriot and Compass to be 1 vehicle by 2012

Quote:
Analysts were surprised the company did not make public plans to cancel the Jeep Commander after this model year, although the SUV is noticeably absent from the restructuring plan's product chart. It also shows the Jeep Compass and Patriot will be replaced by a single compact Jeep in 2012.

New to the lineup is a Fiat-based mini Jeep in 2011.

Deneau said the plan does not preclude eliminating more vehicles in the future, and he notes four models were discontinued last year.

Surprise??? 10 pennies:1 dime says the vehicle looks more like the Patriot and is offered in a trail-rated model. I wonder if they'll go with a whole new platform.

Curious about the mini Jeep in '11.

Given the status of the automotive industry - this isn't too suprising

So I will own another unique vehicle.

I'm not sure, I never could find the export numbers but I think that the Compass was more popular outside of NA so it will depend on who they think their market is. I can't wait to see it and the new mini!

I hope you are right. Any more info on this except for that article??

I hope they keep the Patriot as I like the looks and specs better than that of the Compass. That's just my personal preference of the two though.

I am also interested in the "Mini Jeep" info.

Sorry if I barged into your forum.

If you've had a chance to read Chrysler's proposal to Congress (there is at least a "flow chart-like" .pdf floating around on the web), you'll see what the article refers to.

I'll speculate that they will drop a version of the Phoenix Engine (6 cylinder) into whatever comes out in 2012. I'd really surprised if the 2012 model isn't a redesign of a vehicle to take the Liberty's place, and the 2011 compact vehicle takes the place occupied by the Patriot/Compass.

How many entry level vehicles can you have? Having a base model Patriot at $16K doesn't leave much room for a model that is less expensive unless it is based on a scooter.

I'm guessing it will be:
Wrangler
Wrangler Unlimited
Re-modeled Grand Cherokee
2012 Jeep (replace Liberty, more fuel efficent w/Phoenix engine)
2011 Compact Jeep (replace MK's, engine/platform borrowed from Fiat)

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. The MK's started it all by showing that consumers find smaller Jeeps are acceptable.

Well I heard that Detriot Auto Show that they were comming out with the EV Jeep (wrangler unlim) and there as going to be a patriot EV.... I thought it was a foregone conclusion that the compass was dead and the patriot /caliber would live on.

I'd imagine the Patriot would come out ahead and the new "mini-Jeep" would take the place of the Compass. Unless the mini Jeep is made more trailable. But I can't imagine that something shared with Fiat would be more off-roadable than something designed by Jeep.

So I'm thinking a Fiat Compass and a more trail ready Patriot. Ditching the Liberty would make sense as it's not quite up to what it's competition is in its current form, and as such has lost sales faster than the average.

No Pacer but I did have a Gremlin and a Corvair . I'm still working on the Challenger. Also had a Model A, an AA, a '34 Dodge PU, an MG Midget, a 'Cuda, a Duster and a couple of Valiant wagons and several '56 Dodges. Too many others to mention. And then I got married the first time.

The speculation is fun on this but what if they brought out the Compass Concept with a V-6 and off road package?

Does the Compass share a frame with any other car? I know the Patriot and Nitro do.

I bet Fiat's mini Jeep will look like a 2 door Patriot or have like a curved shape like the Compass.

Consider yourself a minority; and I'm in that group with you.

My wife and I like the Compass' look better, which is why we chose it. But I normally hear the opposite. And in the US, I think the Patriot has way more sales.

In Canada, I see the opposite. At least in my province anyway.

I'm actually impressed the Compass is sticking around as long as it has, since it has a near identical twin (Patriot) to offer.

I'm seeing a lot more Compass's on the road these days. I've had mine for a year now and hardly saw any others when I bought it? Just the other day there were three of us parked side by side. Same year, model, and colour. They weren't there when I parked but happened to meet the other owners. We stood and talked about the Jeeps for about 15 minutes. Not one negative thing to say about them!
