I hope they keep the Patriot as I like the looks and specs better than that of the Compass. That's just my personal preference of the two though.
I am also interested in the "Mini Jeep" info.
Sorry if I barged into your forum.
If you've had a chance to read Chrysler's proposal to Congress (there is at least a "flow chart-like" .pdf floating around on the web), you'll see what the article refers to.
I'll speculate that they will drop a version of the Phoenix Engine (6 cylinder) into whatever comes out in 2012. I'd really surprised if the 2012 model isn't a redesign of a vehicle to take the Liberty's place, and the 2011 compact vehicle takes the place occupied by the Patriot/Compass.
How many entry level vehicles can you have? Having a base model Patriot at $16K doesn't leave much room for a model that is less expensive unless it is based on a scooter.
I'm guessing it will be:
Re-modeled Grand Cherokee
2012 Jeep (replace Liberty, more fuel efficent w/Phoenix engine)
2011 Compact Jeep (replace MK's, engine/platform borrowed from Fiat)
It will be interesting to see what comes of this. The MK's started it all by showing that consumers find smaller Jeeps are acceptable.
