Passenger side headlight receiving less than normal power?

Hello all,

Jeep family here, myself with a JK, wife with a 2012 Patriot.

We noticed recently that her passenger's side headlight was about half as bright as the driver's side. I replaced both bulbs with a brand new set and the problem remained.

Next stop was the dealership, who first said it was due to the angle in which she was sitting. After telling them to actually get out of the vehicle and stand back from the Patriot and take a look, they then acknowledged the issue. A few hours passed and they told her to bring it back another day, they would call Chrysler for help and look again.

I plan on getting a wiring diagram and getting out the multimeter this weekend to check the wires for the light.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or have knowledge on where to troubleshoot?

Typically, this problem arises from a corroded socket. My brother-in-law had an eclipse with this problem. Turned out to be the socket had corroded a bit, not allowing full voltage to the bulb. His also started to melt the socket from the high temp created by the resistance in the wiring. Check for darkened or melted areas on the socket, and replace if this is the problem. I used butt-splice connectors with built in heat shrink and sealant, and put dielectric grease in the socket to protect it. Never had another issue and the light was nice and bright. Then had to do the other side a few months later, lol.

If the socket looks good, check it with a multimeter for full 12V anyway. It could also be from a bad splice elsewhere, but the socket is more likely.
