I found this neat tire size calculator and comparator at 1010tires that I didn't realize was there. If you check the box on the right before submitting it also brings up the tires available in those sizes. It gives width, rim size, height, revs per mile, etc. May be of help to some.

well by trial and error...245/70's will fit and barely rub with one person in the vehicle...it would appear for now that 235/70's will be the way to go...

I’ve been looking at tires a lot myself. Crawling around under my Jeep, measuring clearances and taking a few pictures. My tires are the 215/55TR18’s that are 6.4” tread width, 8.8” section width and 27.4” tall, all measurements are in relationship to my tires of course.

The real culprit that gets in the way of taller tires is the struts. Between the top of my tire and the anchor plate for the spring is only about 1 ¼ “. That means that the max I could go is a 2 1/2’ taller tire or 29.9” and at that it would be rubbing on the spring anchor just sitting still

. The only way that I can see to go any tires taller than about 29” is either with modified struts or wheel spacers. The latter will never be on my want list and since I don’t make struts in my back yard that’s going to have to wait too. Even the FD II Patriot uses about the same strut, just stiffer I believe, same spring anchor. So even though its GC is at 9” you still won't be able to put a taller tire than the 29”

Is the Patriot 5 x 4 1/2 like the Wrangler and Cherokee? Also, I am assuming it is the same as the Compass???

Ok......now one last query..... Will the 15 inch Ravine wheels fit a Patriot? In other words with the 15 inch wheels clear the brakes etc?

Same here.

. I can't answer that one. The off-set on the MK wheels is 38/42/45mm (I've seen differences between Manufacturers). Not a clue on the Ravine's. to maybe get just an idea. They do show a little of the brake lines with 18” wheels but they weren’t intended to show the clearance for them.

I got New Tires on the 4 x 2: pics on camera upstairs; will post this afternoon/ evening.

So I went up to Pepboys yesterday and got new tires. With the base base model, I got the fantabulous 205 70's on my Patriot and every time I looked at her profile, I said to myself ' now somethin' about that just aint' right. ' So like usual, I had to go and try to fix something that wasn't broke.

The manager there was convinced we could make 245 75's a go, but no such luck. (I didn't think it'd be too polite with the whole ' i told ya so' from all my research on the forums. So, we went down to 235 70 series, and they look and fit great.

The da** Hurricane's blasting us with rain today so I haven't been able to measure how much higher she sits, but it's at least half n inch. Pulled up to a light last nigth right next to an old grand like mine, and the Pat's mirror was the same height. I'm ecstatic. She looks like a real Jeep now.

tried to make the tires rub and the only time they did was on a full blown hard turn...no big deal to me; if they rub, they'll do it a few times and then the wheel wells will be 'altered' to fit the ties. No up and down suspension rubs over speed bumps up to 20 mph.

That's the kind of feedback that I've been waiting for.

Stock ground clearance with the 205/70R16 is 8" (4 X 2).
the 235/70R16 are 1.65 taller than the 205's (27.28 vs 28.93) gives you a total GC of 8.83".

As stated before, I have 235/70/16's on stock Rubicon wheels and there is NO rubbing at all, even with 4 adults inside the vehicle. Ill post pics here in about 15 minutes....It looks sweet. My buddy looked at it (he has a brand new sahara 4 door wrangler) and said "wow, they should come stock like that". Which is why I like using the rubicon wheels. It gives it a stock look but makes it look great. Pics to finally follow.

Confirmed, and that's 29"! I'm excited too! Do you have 17" or 18" on your Compass? The 29" tires for 18" wheels works out to 235/60R18 (29.1); 235/65R17 are 29.02. Without going to a different off set on the wheels, spacers or redesigned front struts, these could be our optimum choices. By all means, play around with the tire size calculators and find the tread pattern that's right for your driving conditions!

A reminder to everybody who will be moving up in tire size. Your speedometer WILL BE OFF by about 6%; 60 mph = 56 actual and 100kmph = 93. The dealer can recalibrate your speedo if you can't live with it.
