Okay, I'll admit it...

I like the Compass. Quite a bit, as it happens.

Went to the local Chrysler Full Throttle event today down in Irvine. They had three separate courses going: trucks and SUVs, passenger cars, and Jeep.

I'd looked at the Compass before, but hadn't actually driven one until today. Went out in two different Limiteds and came away impressed. Performance was good, handling was good, the interior's kinda funky in a good way. No, it's not a 'real' Jeep, but it's not meant to be. As it happens I'm also keen on Subarus, and see the Compass competing against the Impreza and Forester. So while it's not a vehicle I'd necessarily buy to replace my XJ, it'd make a good commuter vehicle with some added versatility.

I'll be interested to see how they shape up longer-term - my mother (who has driven nothing but Honda Civics for the past 30 years) is looking at getting something akin to a CR-V, but I'd much rather see her in one of these...
