Oil Change Interval

Hello all, I have a 2010 Patriot with the 2.4 liter engine and am wondering what other's are using for mileage between oil changes. I have been doing it at 3K but this may be too often.

Thoughts?

Josh

I'm upping mine to 6000 miles. This is in the '09 Compass Owners Manual, your page number may vary.

I always do mine 3k, just a practice I am in to. I think you are good up to 5k or so. It depends on how hard you drive and the driving conditions. Also, the type of oil and whatnot.

yep, Gramps the same in the '11 manual...

my salesman made a point of pointing this out to me... He said, don't let my Sales/Finance Mgr try to sell me on the service agreement... It's not necessary & cost too much. The Mgr offered oil changes q 3000 miles for a set price. When I asked the Mgr about what the book said (q 6000 miles), he stated... THE BOOK IS WRONG!
End of Story... he didn't want to talk about it...

So, my plan is to change the old every (q) 6000 miles at the same time the tires should be rotated.
of course I am of the school of every (q) 10000 on tire rotation, so that could go to every other oil change. But I guess I'll just have to see how the tires wear on my Patriot.

2011 Oil Change Interval

My 2011 says 8000 mi, my 09 was 6000.

Required Maintenance Intervals
Refer to the Maintenance Schedules on the following pages for the required maintenance intervals.

13000 Km
8000 Miles
6 Months Change the engine oil and engine oil filter.
Rotate the tires, rotate at the first sign of irregular wear, even if it occurs before 8,000 miles (13 000 km).

I change my oil twice a year in May and November and I usually average about 8000 - 9000 miles between those changes. I've used Amsoil's 0W20 full synthetic from the start and replace the oil filter each time as well. No problems at all after 82K miles and still idles quiet without a sound.

How do you reset the Oil Change warning light? I just had my first oil change at 3,000...and then the light went came on at 3,500. Pretty sure I don't need an oil change 500 miles later.

-turn your key to ON (do not start the car)
-press your gas pedal all the way down three times, taking about 2 seconds to press it down and 2 seconds to let it return each time
-turn the key off

For the 2011 patriots oil change is 3,500 to 4,000 miles depends on how you drive. I asked the dealer about doing 6,000 to 8,000 oil change and they said it would never make it that long on standard oil.
