Making it retroactive wouldn't fit with the reason why Chrysler/Cerberus is doing this, which is to attract new buyers...remember, we've ALREADY bought ours.
Unfortunately, there is not much loyalty anymore, on the part of manufacturers OR owners. A lot of people try to turn this into a sad, sad statement, but it's actually the result of better quality, more informed buyers and more choices. The dealer relationship used to be a factor, but since most Americans move fairly often (as compared to years ago) there are less reasons to be a "Mopar/GM/Ford person."
However, a longer warranty MAY be a good excuse for me to get off my butt, sell my classic car and buy a new Wrangler. I test drove one the other day when my Compass was in for an oil change, and it would make a GREAT second car for this middle-aged single guy...that would be a sweet pair to have in my garage.
