New Patriot Owner!!

Sadly I had to trade in my '02 Wrangler. Upside is I found a really good deal on a 2009 Patriot 4x4.

Happy with it stock for now but already looking at some mods.

How do I know for sure if I have a Freedom I or II?

Thanks to everyone for their input on these forums, they are very helpful.

TJ

The easiest/quickest way to tell is by the shifter. No 5 speed will be a FD II, so does the CVT shifter have AutoStick with a + and - (FD I) or does it have a "low" gate that you can drop it into (FD II)? The FD II also came with skid plates and tow hooks, these can be added but most haven't.

Sorry about you Wrangler!

Ok Thanks. Mine is a 5 speed with no tow hooks. And as far as I can tell it only has the skid plate under the engine. The "skid plate" is plastic. Does that even count as a skid plate??

You're up early!!

The plastic piece is a "splash shield", a big rock would definitely win.

It sounds like some nice tires, skid plates, tow hooks and lift kit might be on your wish list?

Yes those are definitely on my wish list. Just don't want to sacrifice the MPGs just yet. Or the $$$.

I'm at work by 6:00 am eastern time every day. But I have to cruise the forums before any real work can be done.

Visit the stickies and you can get some ideas http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/q...s-more-519045/ of where to go with yours.

I do understand the mpg thing, it's a bit better than the Wranglers. I've heard of some of the 5 speed FD I's getting up around 29-30 mpg.

Keep the tires a reasonable size, 28" - 29", go for tread design over height; the dealership wants a good sized chunk of change for the skid plates; Tow hooks and lift kit in due time.

Above all enjoy your new Jeep!

My Patriot solution for going of road is my 4 door JK Rubicon.
The Patriot is front drive not 4wd and it is my wife's Jeep. A month after we got that I sold my 93 YJ and bought the '10 JK.
The best part is that combined they were about the same price we paid 11 years ago when we had 98 and 99 Cherokees.
