New Compass - 2012, 2013, or 2014?
In the market for a small/mid 4WD SUV and I am pretty sure I've decided on the Jeep Compass. I know the notable different between the pre-14 Compass is the 6-speed A/T. I've also noticed it's mixed feelings on the CVT.
So what I'm considering right now is:
2012 Jeep Compass Latitude 4WD
- 8,000 miles
- $18,900 list price (no haggling yet)
...... too good to be true? Seems like similar Compass Sport goes for that price.
2013 Jeep Compass Sport 4WD
- CVT II
- $20,400 list price (no haggling yet)
2014 Jeep Compass Sport 4WD
- Power Value Group
- $22,500 list price
I live in the city but visit back home often and would like the 4WD for beach use. No extensive 4-wheeling.
I would love some opinions from you guys!
have you driven a vehicle with the cvt? Some people like it, some don't. I like it, so if it was my money and you can get a 2012 for 18k, with only 8k miles, I would be seriously tempted, you have a majority of the warranty left, get all the extra upgrades, and you would be saving a lot of money.
If you hate the CVT, the only option is the 2014.
I think the 2014 Compass will be worth looking at. I don't think you will need the Low range 4WD, so the 6speed auto will be available to you.
The low range FDII still have the CVT.
Also I think in the higher packages (limited) a rear back up camera is available. Not sure tho. Don't hold me to it.
The new 6speed is built by Hyundai. So it should be reliable.
I don't want to steer you away from Jeep but knowing the tranny is built by Hyundai you should also consider the new Hyundai SantaFe. It will get better gas mileage than any Jeep has to offer.
Thanks for the input. I looked at the 2014 6-speed yesterday and the CVT today. I did not mind the CVT but certainly disliked the noise compared to the 6speed.
Now with the 2012 Compass Limited w/ 8k miles.....it's priced at $18000 because it was a fleet vehicle. The CARFAX reads:
First oil change on new car at 5,000+? Then another just less than 2,000 miles after?
Only 8K, who cares it was a fleet vehicle. What did you end up going with?
The first oil change is usually around 5-6k miles. Atleast thats what my owner's manual stated. I don't think I waited till 5k miles to get mine done. I happened to be at the dealership for another item and I decided to get my free oil change.
On the other hand I just bought a new Patriot and couldn't be happier with the 6speed tranny and 2.4l engine. Drives smooth and can move if you need to pass or get out of the way. But then again I'll see what happens in 3 years when that warranty runs out.
I'm not sure why you started to bash hyundais. My wife has an accent and both of my parents have Azeras. I love the new Santa Fe as well.
All in all they are great vehicles and a steal for the money. All vehicles have their issues and if you singled out a car company because of one vehicle. You wouldn't have anything to drive.
Any update on the vehicle purchased?
Not bashing Hyundais at all. Just giving my opinion. Like you said there are things to complain about with every car. Just looking back in hind sight had I known about all of the added maintenance on the engine I probably would have opted for something else.
As far as the new Pat goes. It's great. It's a nice smooth quiet ride and from what I was used to before it seems like it never runs out of gas. The only downside is my wife likes it to so now I have to fight her to drive it.
I was debating between a new 2013 Patriot or new 2014 Patriot... 2WD... 2.0...
I brought home the 2014...
I test drove both... The 2013 was coasting at 3000RPM at 65mph... The 2014 2000RPM at 65mph...
I also decided on the 2014, due to some publications saying that Jeep had made improvements to handling (although Jeep does not specify how this was achieved)... I felt the steering to be the same on both... Only thing is that if you floor the 2014 to go faster it actually picks up speed and does not try to give you excuses like the 2013... So, you actually maneuver better on the 2014 because the transmission feels more connected, efficient and matched to the small engine...
