We also have a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage that I'll be trading in. I'm going tomorrow to test drive it. Does this have FDI or FDII?

The sales guy said they had to sell 26 cars by the end of the month, so I think I have a pretty good pressure point, if he's not lying to me. Looking for a lot of advice.

Sorry if this post rambles a little bit, I'm really excited and nervous all at the same time. Thanks for humoring me!

It looks like a nicely equipped Sport. What I see it lacking is an optional radio (but it does have Sirius) not mp3 Disk capable and no BA sound system.

This is an FD I. An FD II would also list "Crawl ratio and Off-Road package" (Skid plates, tow hooks, engine oil cooler etc.)

Afraid I don't know what kind of deals are being cut. I'll let someone chime in on that.

OH! Congrats on Fatherhood!

The 08's do have a promotion going on now $500.00 cash back.
Invoice price would probably be almost $1000. off sticker.
If you can find an 08 with about the same equip you may want to see the difference in price though I don't think it would be much, but it may help you get a little more off on the 07

Good Luck

Does FDI use a brake controlled traction or is that only FDII

All ESP systems do as far as I know, so they both do. The FD II has "enhancements" for down hill and other programmed features too and the transaxle runs a different ratio for the 19:1 crawl.

OK. Thanks. I just heard on the radio that Jeep is giving 0% APR or $3K cash allowance on all 2008s. So, in theory I should be able to get at least that or better on an 07 since they desperately need to get these off the lots.

Since it has the optional 215/65R17, does this mean it has the better ground clearance or is that only on the FDII?

The radio is fine since we like to plug up our iPod in my WK and my wife really wanted that on her next vehicle anyway.

Any suggestions on how to gauge if the engine is adequate? By that I mean, I've never driven a CVT style tranny/engine and I'm use to my 4.7 V8. So, how do I know if it lags too much? I've seen a few posts on here that the 2.4 seems to lag. Why?

Better double check, I don't think the $3K is for the Pat. I think it's just for the Grand or Commander.

Those tires will give you about 1/3" more ground clearance.

These engines don't have a lot of torque, they run off RPM. The book says keep it below 60 mph for the first 500 miles, I'd say try to keep it below 4K rpm. I'm just saying don't your foot in it all of the time during break in but do run it up and then back off to let the rings seat. There are very close tolerances on these engines, they don't need a real long break in. Some of the "sluggishness" is perception. Since there is no harsh gear change it doesn't feel like your going fast but do watch your speed, it'll surprise you.

The $3000 is only on the GC and the Commanders. The 07 Patriots have $750 off right now OR there might be some better interest rates. The 07 Compasses on the other hand have $2500 cash back, but standard interest rates apply.

Well, WE GOT IT!!!

I stayed at the dealership a total of 6 hours today working out a deal. Got an 07 Jeep Patriot (MK) 2WD, 2.4L with CVVTII with the 26E pkg. Its Black with the dark gray interior. Looks very sharp. It has the BA sound system, Sirius radio, side curtain airbags, Auto Tranny, YES Essential seats, Tonneau cover, crossbars for the roof rack and will be upgraded tomorrow morning to the 215/65R17 from the standard wheel.

I was able to get them to give me the vehicle with trade in for ~ $18,000 when the sticker was ~ $23,000. Got the payments to where I wanted it and walked away a happy guy. Wife's happy too, since its her car.

The biggest issue was the discount. They only wanted to give me a $500 credit. So, with trade in I would have only gotten the original car for about $21,000. Then the haggling started and we got rid of the 4WD system, then we got rid of the auto tranny, then we brought it back. Then we asked for real wheels and then they offered us some aftermarket wheels then we found out that those didn't work with the TPMS, so we went to the 17s.

All in all, I have to go back tomorrow to have the thing detailed and get the 17s installed on it and it will all be done.

Parked next to my GC it looks like a baby Jeep, which is ironic since it will be with 'babies' Jeep!

Congrats and to the group. The only real way to tell if you got a good deal is if YOU'RE satisfied with it. Sounds like a nice set up.

Thanks, and we totally are happy. I drove it this morning and I'm personally a little jealous. This thing rides great! I did discover that it is only the regular radio w/ a Sirius subscription-no 6 disc changer. I should have read the spec sheet a little better: Oh well, we really like to use our iPod anyway so that definitely helps! I prolly got confused with all the Pats I saw; b/c I know I looked at one with a 6 disc changer...Oh well. No biggy. I'll try to get some pictures of it soon and post them.
