Mulfunction indicator light (MIL) is on

Hi everyone,

I am a 2012 Jeep Patriot owner. I have one quick question about my vehicle. When I insert the key and turn on my car (Not all the way, and engine is not running), the MIL is on. After turning the key all the way with the engine running, the MIL goes away. Is it the way it is supposed to be? Or it is not normal? Thanks for your help.

That's normal. The It's telling you that the engine systems are not responding because it's not running.

My MLI light came on today and the engine died in a busy intersection and then I got it started. Now the light is off ??
