okay..now that we have established, these plans exist, and how much they can be had for, let me play you-know-who's advocate and advance the following arguments/speculations against buying in:

1) I seem to get bored w/....something every 7 years or so, and since I don't want to take Prozac or trade in my wife (..just kidding..mostly), I buy a new car.
In those seven or so years I have never had any powertrain issues, and not much others either, come to think of it.

2)At 10k miles per year and $3 per gallon, it costs roughly $600 more today to drive a compass than a prius (existing technology). Let me speculate that 5 years down the road it would cost $1000 w/ gas prices at $5 pg, and possibly $1500 with even more improved hybrid or super diesel technology (by then readily available in small suv/crossovers).
How long does it make sense financially and environmentally to keep the compass under these circumstances?

..I'm a man of wealth and taste...

The problem is, you don't know that Gas will be $5 p/g. I'm guessing it will be around $3.60 to $4.00 at the most.

A lot of energy was used in order to Manufacture your Compass, so its better on the environment if you keep it as long as possible!

My rust bucket that I traded in was 18 years old. Like unibus I tend to hang on to GOOD vehicles a long time. With the Added Care Plus I could maintain it such that it stays in good condition. I'm also approaching retirement age and I am not entertaining making car payments when I get there. If I do decide to sell my Compass the Added Care plus IS transferable one time, maybe adding to the resale value or at least a quicker sale since it would be in primo condition w/warranty included. Then I could buy a used CJ/Wrangler, take my fishing boat out some place and say to "h" with the price of gas.

Question...What is the difference between added care plus and the maximum coverage....You can not find any details online, at least I can't.

True, I'm just speculating about the price of gas.

Re your second point, ,I am not talking about retiring the compass, but assume, as I'm upgrading to a more fuel-efficient future crossover w/ 50+ mpg, somebody will take over the compass to replace their less fuel-efficient vehicle of 17mpg (e.g.
Wrangler).

I maybe a bit confused, but is this still the Powertrain warranty of which you speak? I thought it was not transferrable.

The Lifetime Powertrain warranty IS non transferable, original owner only. This is an upgrade to the Added Care lifetime package. See post 14 or click here:

You can find some info at the jeep site, in the owners section, under service contracts, Plans and benefits, tiers of protection.... look around the site you'll find it.

Added care plus covers ~800 components and Maximum covers ~5000

My dealer didn't recommend the maximum plan unless you had every bell and whistle.... like the NAV unit and such.

Too much to list. They really break it down to almost nuts and bolts. Go here:

http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/maximum_care.cfm

You can also compare plans. Go here and click what you want on the left panel. The same place that you can buy it online.

I just bought my Lifetime Powertrain warranty online for $750. The price on line is only good threw tomorrow, after that it's $930, at least that's what it says right now. http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/ will send you a promotion code for $180 off in your email after the first time you do a price quote. Now I've got 2 years/17K miles to think about the Added Care Plus.

Congratulations!
I'm still on the fence- my devil's advocate's conflicts and all- but I'm sure it must give you peace of mind. Did they email or fax you the actual contract, and could you post it or the most relevant parts here? Thanks.

They said that they would email me a confirmation within a few days. I'm guessing that this requires some kind of verification for original owner, VIN # and mileage. They probably run a check with the dealers on mileage for oil change or some other service performed. Mine should be easy to find! .

My favorite term for "insurance" of any kind. including extended warranties, is "paranoia tax" . Ya, peace of mind since I plan on keeping mine.

I'll let you know when I get my confirmation.
