I actually like it alot. At first I thought it was a little loud but now I'm not sure if it's just me used to the sound now but I think it sounds pretty good too. Gas wise - there's been a little improvement. Nothing insane but I get another half day out of my $25. Hey - its better in my pocket than in thiers.

I'm sure you'll be happy - I love mine. The install is easy too. The toughest parts are getting the clips holding electrical wires off of the pipe and the engine. I took about 30mins getting the sensor from the original pipe into the new one but once you get past those parts - Its all down hill

Just curious echocat22 - how much did you spend? Did you get it from the same place I did (autoanything)?

Patriot Fans!

I just called a nice lady at K&N customer Service, (800) 858-3333, and she directed me here:

http://www.knfilters.com/products_needed/default.aspx

Go there and make your wants known to K&N. They have not tested the 63-series on the Patriot yet. You will be put on a mailing list when it's available. They need to know what the interest level is so that they can drag one into the shop and check it out.

Check the box for FIPK/57/63

Logically the 63-1552 should fit, but it's K&N's call.

k&N air intake

I just installed mine, and while it was not rocket science, it still took me almost two hours. I don't consider myself mechanically challenged, but I'm certainly not gifted either... I agree with the previous installer, the temp sensor is difficult to insert, also the lower tube clamps are hard to get to for tightening.
So far only aware of more noise, will post after some driving experience.

First impression after 30 miles of mixed driving- no freeways: definitely noticeable gain in acceleration and immediacy of throttle response, the stated 172 hp finally make some sense. Can recommend product . I had similar experience with an airaid+k&N system in my 98 4cyl Wrangler. Did not lead to increased mpg, so I'm not expecting any here either. The increased engine roar seems to happen only or mostly at wide open throttle, no problem in normal driving. Will see if I'll learn to love it like pillzny. For now , verdict is favorable, especially if you're looking for some extra oomph offl the line.
BTW, I have the 4x4 manual, don't know how the cvt will do with the kit.

I think you're going to like it. I really like it in mine after 300 or so miles. The throttle response is great, everything seems even smoother than before, and there might be a slight gain in fuel economy (1mpg in mixed driving). Definitely worth the investment!
