Jeep Compass Recall

My took the Jeep to the dealership to have it's 3rd oil change. They told her there was a recall regarding the lower control arm bolts. Apparently many were not tightened properly. They went ahead and corrected this since it was of no charge to us.

I had not seen anything about this on here. Or am I blind. Gramps, you have anything on this oh-wise-one?

I haven't seen anything on that either. Only the occasional early failure of a tie rod end and the one off rack and pinion mounting bolts being loose. I'll cruise a few sources and see what I can find on it.

The TSB and Recall list in the Caliber Forums is not available at this time. It is my favorite list to use and hopefully this is only temporary.

In the mean time, these sites are usefull but require more clicking to find what you may be looking for but can give you information about any vehicles that you may be interested in.

Here's what the invoice said:

Quote:
Complete Rapid Response - 08-070
Cause: Rapid Response

The Jeep is back and what's done is done. I was just curious to see if you guys knew about it. Maybe it's just really new.

I'll check out your links at a later time, Gramps. Thanks.

I don't understand what you mean by that.

Is this therefore not a recall? Is it something that only effected my certain Jeep and not others? (I don't see how that would happen if true.)

Hi
No it's not just yours but it's not a recall (no faulty parts) it's a Rapid response transmittals so will not show up on a recall list.
Regards,
Merlin

When I took delivery of my 08 last week they replaced my LCA bolts while installed splash guards. They said it was a Rapid Response, not a recall. The mechanic had a whole pile of bolts he was going to trash on his workbench. He had done all the bolts in the Patriots and Compass' on the lot during the day. He wasn't happy!

So is it something we should worry about? or wait until the Jeep goes in for service?

So what if i never take my jeep to the dealer?

I do all my service myself so if this isnt a recall, how am i supposed to get it corrected? Im surely not going to be calling the dealer to ask them what problems they have fixes for. Thats the point of a recall notice isnt it? They mail it to you so you know that a part could fail and need to be inspected.

For whatever reason, I just didn't clue in to what you meant. I understand now, thank you.

Hi
If you never take your jeep to the dealer you would never know, If you call your dealer they will do a VIP sheet and it will show up on there if this RRT is outstanding. It’s only if a bolt is not at the correct torque then the bolt is replaced, if it is at the correct torque job done. No part is going to fail so no recall.
Regards,
Merlin
