Jeep Compass Hitch

Hello,

I have a 2008 Jeep Compass, 2.4L, 5-Speed Manual, FWD.

I am looking to put a hitch on my Compass, I understand I can add an engine oil cooler to boost the trailer weight from 1000lbs to 2000lbs, but am feeling quite limited by the 150lb tongue weight limit.

Does anyone know if there are any hitch brands that sell a weight-distribution rated hitch for a Jeep Compass? And if so what would that bump the tongue weight up to?

Max tongue weight is 350# for a class 3/ 2" receiver.

From the quick links faq:

It appears that unless you have the FD II Off-Road Package in 2009 that the Trailer Tow Package is not available. For the FWD and FD I you’ll need to do these things yourself.

Thanks for the reply! Lots of useful information there. Short answer is no, there is no weight distribution hitch receiver for the compass, while you can get class III hitches they are not rated for weight distribution due to the method of attaching them to the frame.

Short answer is, there is no such thing that you are trying to refer to...

Also the hitch attaches to the uni-body as MKs don't have a frame...

The term weight distribution hitch refers to the type of hitch and setup that goes into a receiver... Not sure if you mean something else but receivers bolt to a uni-body or frame depending on your application. receivers are rated as a class X hitch...

The following classifications of hitches are what I am aware of:
class 1, class 2, class 3, class 4, 5th wheel, and goose neck.

I guess you could use a weight distribution HITCH in the receiver of a MK but considering the MK is only only rated 1000# (or 2000# with tow package) I don't see the need. Weight distribution hitches are for large loads that should be being towed by a full size truck or suv IMO.

So in short weight distribution is a type of hitch, that goes in a receiver, not a system that bolts to a vehicle.

unibody = type of frame

so his statement that it attaches to the frame is correct.
