The lock handle returns to the down position when released. Pull up once and its ON with the dash being lit up. Pull it again and it goes OFF and so should the light. If the light does not go off then there is a problem and you should have the dealer look at it.

When ever you shut off the Compass/Patriot the lock will stay in whatever mode that you left it in. It does not automatically turn off.

When you first turn the ignition switch to on it does a "systems check" for all of the dash lights and it will turn on. If you left it in the lock ON position when you shut off the ignition then it will then stay lit until you pull up on the handle.

The AWD kicks in automatically but I believe the RAV 4 is a full time AWD where these are an "On Demand" AWD.

You mean rav runs all times 4wd ?
Does awd stand for "all wheel drive"?

Once again Gramps, I am amazed at your knowledge and the amount of time you spend helping people to get the most out of their vehicle. My wife drives a 2009 compass "4x4" and loves it, I have a 2010 Wrangler 2dr. and I love mine too. We both learn something everyday on Jeep Forum, thanks.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm always happy to help out, as are many others in JF.
