Hit a deer this morning.

Well more like ran over. The damage it did was mostly mechanical. It cracked the lower part of the bumper but as I ran it over it broke something with the radiator coolant. Didn't have time to really look, had to get to work. I just called for a tow and will wait and see what they find out tomorrow. In the mean time can anyone help me on locating skid plates for a 2011 Compass CVT FD1. I imagine if I hadn't had the lift and taller tires that I'd be looking at a destroyed from face.

Looks like those are only for the fuel tank. I need/want one for the front engine/ trans.

Try giving Just for Jeeps a call, they might be able to help you.

there weren't skid plates in the front for the FD-I, that was one of the options for the FD-II. and i don't know if the plates from the off-road package will fit since the front bumper's lower valence is physically different than the one without.

Good point. Now that the coolant is drained it looks like its as good as time to add the engine oil cooler. Are the part #s the same for my '11 as the ones mentioned in one of the stickies??

They will fit a number of guys at jeep patriot dot com have added skid plates to non fdii mk's

Thanks for that. I looks to be pretty straight forward now that Gramps and everybody else has done the hard part. The deer KOed both my radiator and condenser. The bottom of the front bumper is cracked and so is the plastic splash guard under the front bumper. So glad the air bag didn't deploy.

right, but remember there is more of a significant difference between the compass and patriot front ends when you change package. the compass' front bumper has a more drastic change, it slopes pretty heavily, whereas the patriot's bumper is almost identical between the two. i'm not saying the skid plates won't fit, i genuinely have no idea, i'm just saying that the difference between the two bumpers may be significant enough to cause an issue.

Not in the slightest, skid plates go under the gas tank and engine and the part numbers are exactly the same for a fdii patriot and a fdii compass. And would have no issues, since the stop short at the radiator, which is the same on all mk platforms.

This is what I've come to believe since looking around the net. The only thing with the FDI I know of is the plastics underbelly might need to be trimmed.

aroundincircles 08-21-2013 07:47 PM

A lot of the plastics will be replaced. I highly recommend going to jeep patriot dot com, there are a couple of threads there that go over this is detail. Should be very helpful.

I got an update from the body shop. They ordered the wrong radiator and it won't be done until Fridaybat the earliest. I took this week of for a mini vacation a month ago and looks like I'll be staying home. No room in the budget for rental car with the repair bill and everything else. Ugh. :mad:Maybe in November.
