General likes and dislikes -Compass

so we are thinking of getting a compass for my wife (she likes them, likes the ford edge better but they are alot more $$$) ive had jeeps for the last 13years and i personally dont like the idea of a "car" jeep (no offence to anyone, plenty people dont like my jeep), but the mor ei look at them the more i think this would be a good vehilcle for her, need to be a suv and on the small size and "roundish" (those are her words not mine) and it HAS to be 4wd, so what im asking for is some general likes and dislikes of the compass. what worries me the most is the small engine (thats funny, the same thing i dont like about my JK)

I for one like the gas mileage (about 6 MPG better than the Liberty we had). And it was much cheaper than a Subie. YMMV

Good all round vehicle, handy, good mileage, check which tranny would be best.cvt feels like a slipping clutch, but easy to get used to

she doesnt want a standard, she can drive one but doesnt like it. anyone know if they plan on offering the compass with a larger motor ever? we are kinda leaning to the liberty now cause it can tow 5000lbs (which really blows me away) we are gonna go drive a compass tomorrow and see how it is

Gas mileage
Handling
Ease of parking
Very comfortable in the snow/ice
Turning radius
Driver convenience group
ESP/Traction Controls/Roll mitigation
Anti lock 4 wheel disc brakes
Easy to clean interior
Fold flat seats, including front passenger
Driving comfort, both long and short trips
Seat height adjustment
Lumbar support
Heated seats
A/C that really works
BA sound system
Aux power outlets
I liked the CVT before, love it now with the TSB serviced

Dislikes:
Right front windshield pillar blind spot takes some adjustment
Cup holders less than ideal
“Chirp” in the rear tire cover (I think)
18’ Firestone Firehawks don’t last very long

It’s not a GC but, my wife could do her likes and dislikes list for that too. Nothing is perfect but, you can’t beat the price for what you get. It’s a great General Purpose Vehicle, it’s a Jeep.

My daughter loves her Libby but hates the gas mileage, about 17 mpg compared to my 25. Jeep doesn't disclose what their future plans are.

Fuel economy and engine performance (note mine is a turbo diesel European model)

Brakes, they are incredibly effective - even in the wet.

Lots of extras fitted as standard (note this varies from country to country)

6 CD changer and steering wheel mounted audio/radio controls

Permanent 4x4 mode

Value for money compared to alternatives

Fold flat front passenger seat, makes a nice table for working with my laptop while sitting in the drivers seat.

Dislikes

Rock hard seats (I note an earlier comment about seat comfort, maybe the EU/UK model has hard seats)?

Low seating position compared to other Jeep models, combined with the round shape and lack of parking sensors, it makes parking a bit of a guess! The low seating position makes it impossible to lean out of the window to see where your front wheel/corner is - something that was easy on the old Cherokee models!

Poor visibility - thick door pillars and poor rear quarter views.

Cheap plastic interior.

Hard elbow rest on door, and no rest in the centre that's anywhere near where it needs to be.

Limited tyre choice

ill bump this thread for some more info. I own a JK also but my girlfriend (soon to fiance) is in love with the Compass. She wants a used 07' (bargain shopper)so lets hear some more postives and negatives. I know the 07 wrangler has had som quirks with stalls and brake failures. Does the Compass suffer the same fate?

No stalling problems but a few with hesitations when cold. The TSB appears to have cured that. Mileage before the TSB was a tab better for mine but others have seen an improvement.

There was one complaint about squeaky brakes in reverse that had a fix in the service manual concerning parts incorrectly installed. I haven't heard back on that one.

Overall it's a piece of cake to drive, just turn the key and go.

Forgot: Phantom electrical problems, 2 that I recall. 1 wouldn't shift out of park, the other was a "no start". I believe that some of the "fixes" ended up being to seat the fuses in their holders and possibly other loose connectors being reseated just like other computer controlled equipment. They appear to be one off problems that haven't reappeared.

Steering wheel audio control malfunctions, this is happening on the Calibers too.

ResumeSpeed on the Caliber site has an on going list of TBS's. I try to check them from time to time. They also include MK's in the listings.

I also changed the link in the previous post to go directly to the TBS that I was talking about. You may want to try it again.

I have been having some issues with starting in the cold too. Is the TSB the cause of this for most folks?

Only drove it for a day, the only thing so far that I dislike is the blind spot on the passenger side. Maybe I am not used to driving a "truck". Otherwise, I LOVE IT!
