gas cap message

Got a 12 compass keep getting message gascap on evic. What all can cause this? I tried removing and replace it clicking multiple times
...doesnt go away. Only have 1100 miles.

A bad seal on aforementioned gas cap. Buy a new one?

Thanks for the response..i was just wondering if thats what it was for sure or if something else would make it say that. Ill have to call dealer they can replace under warranty

The earlier ones just come up with a check engine light and not the Gas Cap one. On mine the codes read that it was a leak in the fuel pressure system. Jacked around with the gas cap and the next time I filled up it went away. Then it happened on my wife's GC and since I had bought a locking cap for mine in the meantime I put my old cap on hers and all was fine. Give it some time it may go away by itself.

do you have a scan tool to clear the code? if not take it to auto zone, have them clear it, and see if it comes back.

No i dont have one...i reset it off the screen by hitting the trip odometer reset button..but then when i restart it comes back...maybe ill go out to autozone

You may want to browse threw this thread for info on how the warning lights get set and turned off. MIL/CEL Lights.

Ok so problem was a defective ESIM switch. Something to do with emissions system.

ESIM stands for Evaporative System Integrity Monitor.
The PCM uses the ESIM to detect a loose or missing gas cap.
