Front Wheel Wiggle?

Friends 2010 Patriot. It has 80,000 miles on it. We were doing a tire rotation, ol change, and decided to check some other stuff out. At any rate, we found 2 things.

1. There is no steering wheel lock when the key is off? Not driving a newer vehicle, I can not imagine that this is normal?

2. When we try up and down movment on the front wheels everything is nice and tight. When we we try fron to back (my left to right) I am getting just a little wiggle that is not translating to steering wheel or passenger side. In an older vehicle this usually means wheel bearing, on a newer vehicle does this mean the same? There was no real movement on the tie rod ends etc.

The movmeent was definitely front to back.

Thanks for the help...
