Hi! Check out this thread that also contains 2 other links and see if that helps with your question. I just got a letter the other day inviting me to buy an extended warranty. Do I think about it? Sure. I'll have 18K on it by the time it's a year old, but I have no signs of major problems. I still believe that if you put the $ in the bank your better off.

Go here to find what the plans cover. The flyer that I received is for the ADDED CARE and the MAXIMUM CARE. Both are $100 deductible. I just turned over 15K but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the price. Your state tax can vary.

http://www.servicecontracts.daimlerc...sBenefits.html

or

http://www.servicecontracts.daimlerchrysler.com/

ADDED CARE: covers most mechanical.
Years/Miles***PLAN***TAX*****TOTAL/PER MONTH for 36 months
5/70K***** $1290 + $64.50 = $1354.50/$37.62
5/85K***** $1700 + $85.00* = $1785/$49.58
5/100K**** $2130 + $106.50 = $2236.50/$62.12
7/70K***** $1530 + $76.50* = $1606.50/$44.62
7/85K ***** $2090 + $104.50 = $2194/$60.95
7/100K**** $2720 + $136** = $2856/$79.33

MAXIMUM CARE: pretty much bumper-bumper, 1 day rental car, yada, yada.
5/70K* $1690 + $84.50* = $1774.50/$49.29
5/85K* $2220 + $111** = $2331/$64.75
5/100K $2790 + $139.50 = $2929.50/$81.37
7/70K* $2090 + $104.50 = $2194.50/$60.95
7/85K* $2780 + $139*** = $2819/$81.08
7/100K $3305 + $165.25 = $3470.25/$96.39

For a comparison. We just got an '03 Grand Cherokee with 45K on it for the wife. Her extended bumper to bumper coverage for an 8/80K plan is $100 deductible and $25 per month. However, the final price on it was $11K so the extra insurance on a used vehicle was maybe worth it.

I did. My warranty covers 5 years 75k. It costs me 20 bucks exta a month. The coverage overlaps the dealers for the first three years and provides excess and then covers it outright for two. The best thing is that it is fully transferrable in the event that you want to trade or sell your compass. I don't know who would want to do that though.

Thanks for your feedback! Sounds like you guys got some good deals. Certainly makes you think about it at time of purchase as opposed to later. When you get the extended service plan rolled in to the auto loan the payments are over the length of the loan, when you pick it up later it's for 3 years.

OUCH.....good thing I've leased our Compass. And yes, it is better to get the extended warranty when you buy the jeep. More "wiggle room" for sure.

They offered me 5 years of drivetrain for $500, and 5 years of bumper to bumper for 900... this was through crysler, not one of those third party ripoffs.

I turned it down though. They'll let you buy them until your warranty expires. I figure, if in 2 1/2 years I find out that people are having problems with their compasses, then I'll buy it then. If not, then I'll save my grand and keep on rolling.
