Engine oil choice

Hi guys, what engine oil do you recommend?
I have done my regular service yesterday and my mechanic told me that he used Mobil 2000, and that he tends to use exclusively Mobil for Jeeps (he repairs all prominent 4x4 vehicles but mostly Jeeps).
I have European version of Compass with VW 2.0 diesel engine and manual trans.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic but it is a gas engine and that is our only option in North America.

Pennzoil was used in our Lat from the factory. At first oil change 1000 miles, I upgraded to Pennzoil Platinum, factory recommended weight, 5W20; MOPAR filter.

When you refer to Mobile 1 as the "only option" what do you mean exactly? Manufacturer (Jeep) strongly recommends that oil, or something else? I doubt that you can't find other brands on the market

I meant that Gasoline ie. Petrol engines are our only option for Compass or Patriot in North America. We cannot get the 2.0 Diesel engine. We can use any brand of motor oil we want as long as it meets the specs. Mobil 1 seems to be the first choice in synthetic.

I'm a big fan of being lazy so here is what I do:

Walmart 5qt Pennzoil Platinum $26

If I'm smart: Napa Gold filter purchased in bulk at annual filter sale $5/ea

I'm I'm lazy...most of the time... Fram TG (tough guard) $9

I'd rather use the Napa Gold but like I said I'm lazy... usually I pick up everything in one trip.

I change the oil at 5000-6000 mile intervals and that's it. I love the fact that I change the oil only a few times a year and feel more comfortable with the synthetic oil over cheaper stuff.
