Early Production Compass with black muffler?

So now we know that the 2006 Compass (the first edition) came with the muffler blacked out as opposed to the silver mufflers since 07.

My question is, how and where were they blackened? Were they painted at the plant? Did they use similar extreme heat (bbq) paint that some folks are using to paint theirs?

Gramps, yours came black right?

If you're looking to do it yourself, I know you can buy high temperature paint. I've used it on my old car's brakes. Other people I know used it on valve covers, headers, manifolds, etc.

Sorry I can't answer your questions directly.

Yes, mines is black. latest picture here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showp...&postcount=181

I assume it was done probably supplied by the vendor that way 'cause I just can't see the factory spaying them. I would use a BBQ black paint or other flat black made for high heat, many different brands available.

yeah - BBQ paint or high temp header paint should work - I thought I was going to have to do that too - but thankfully the rear fascia of the Rallye kit hangs low enough to cover it.

mine was built in November of 2006 and NO, mine does NOT have the painted muffler either.

who DOES have a 'factory' painted muffler? is it on the 5sp's? maybe just on 4X2's? "Enquiring Minds want to know......"

(but it really doesn't matter to me.)

I think that my production date of 6/23/06 has more to do with it than being a Limited, AWD, CVT or anything else. Standard production procedures would be a "first in - first out" on vendor supplied parts.

The FWD assembly is part # 05205123 and the AWD is 05105125.

It kind of boils down to which you think would look better: silver w/road film and dirt or black w/road film and dirt.

Mine is also black, production date 03/30/2007.

But this might be on purpose as the vehicle is also black as night .
The silver muffler wouldn't just look good there

Ya, Paul, we did in the "early" days. It was good for a laugh!
