the owner s manual say s to use 5-20W oil..

is it ok to use a 5-30W oil? it just seems like
the 5-20W is too light.

I would say to use what the manual recommends, but I seem to remember a bulletin coming out that said you could use another weight or temp rating oil... I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-20 in my Cali and any other filter that Fram doesn't make. On that note, after my 30k tune up this weekend, I'm averaging 32 MPG! Anybody have any experience in the Bosch +4 Platinum plugs? A guy on the Caliber forums told me some horrors about them...

Nobody has come up with a really good reason why this TSB is for exports only.

Owner Manual Addendum - Engine Oil Viscosity Engines - Export Models

So, if I am reading the TSB correctly, they DO recommend using 5W-30 oil?

Export ONLY. But it only makes since that if you can run it in Europe you can run it here. The ONLY thing that even makes a little bit since is that supposedly 5W20 has slightly less drag than 5W30 and may have something to do with US emissions standards. About all that I can say is that 5W30 will NOT harm your engine but it may affect you emissions.

perhap s just using the lighter weight oil will allow
them to market a higher MPG product..along with
increasing their GREEN rating..

im going to have to discuss this with the service
mgr. soon..

Hi Paul..im still reading thru the manual myself..

and from my understanding you still need to change
oil atleast every 6k to maintain the life time warranty
on the drive train..

Amsoil has it's own legal team to back you up if the dealer tries to tell you that you've voided your warranty by not following their recommendations

It's also covered by the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act

US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) . For best results, consider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers. If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at (202) 260-2080 or www.epa.gov. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or www.ftc.gov.

For more information and you want to read about how to get them to work on and fix your modified vehicle see the SEMA site here:

I have a 2008 Compass 2.0L, CVT. Does it also use the oil filter you posted?
