Early Change Oil Message

Just curious as to how often other peoples change oil light comes on. Mine came on after 4200 kms and then again the other day at 8400 km. I changed the oil both times but was wondering if most people just reset it and change the oil at the recommended mileage intervals. Also would using synthetic oil allow the message to come on less often.

Thanks
Wes

It depends on driving habits and oil specs. The computer has no lab inside- so it calculates on standby, driving and driving time, and and oil spec settings.
Do you do a lot of short distance driving?

I live in Canada and I use synthetic oil and change oil religiously at 8k KM or 5k miles (mix of highway and city driving). I reset the oil change indicator myself by following the simple procedure in the owner's manual.

I get the change oil message every 2500 miles. I just reset it, and change it every 2nd time (5000 miles) using mobile 1.

I think that is the method I will use. Just wanted to see if anyone else was doing this. Every 5000 miles is fine (about 8000km). I will use synthetic as well to see if this lengthens the frequency the message comes on.
Thanks

Its set to come on for the first time around the 10,000km mark and then aprrox. every 10,000km after its been reset. Just because you changed the oil doesn't automatically reset the counter.

The UK spec Patriot doesnt have an oil change Indicator---We just go by the book & use Recommended synthetic every 7500 miles or 9000 miles for the Diesel.

I thought the UK was metric same as Canada ?? My owner's manual says Never go past 10,000 km or 6,000 miles for an oil change for the gasoline engine.

The manual states every 10000km to change the oil or when the indicator comes on, there is a change oil message that comes on whenever the oil gets dirty. Here in Canada conventional motor oil is recommended. In UK and Europe for some reason the grade of oil we use here in the same engine is not recommended over there. I will be switching to synthetic next change for sure.
