DIY - Seat Ventilation

Hi,

With summer around the corner, I started looking into aftermarket seat ventilation. But this would involve cutting into the seats and all sorts of warranty concerns, as I have heated seats and side air bags.....

I searched around the Internet and found a few people are re-directing the under seat vents upwards towards the seats !

I don't often carry people in the back seats, so just wondering if there are any "bad things" to worry about?

I know it sounds crazy but I thought that was a pretty good idea.....

My first thoughts:
- this can't be done with leather seats as these do not let air through
- can this be done with heated seats or is the heating system like a plastic rug with wires inside the seat and does not let air through?
- try it first. Use a reversed vacum cleaner or something (hair dryer and a hose?) to blow air from under the seat and feel if it comes through the seat at all.

It would be blowing cold air into the seat and make the leather cooler. Air would circulate inside the seat.

Agreed the A/C is great but for long drives when in a dress shirt, the back gets a bit "damp" sometimes, so the idea was more to provide over all comfort..

Have you ever heard of "swamp butt" In AZ in the summer, you can drive all day long with the a/c blowing, but the sun beating down on you will just about kill you still. My saab 9-5 has ventilated leather seats, its amazing. It seems an option that once people have it, would never want to live without it during the summer.

If you've never had it, you'll never think you would want it... BUT once you've had it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Agreed!

Yes, I have indeed heard and felt it that feeling !!!!

That's why I'm looking to see if this is possible.

I have found this:

http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/seatvenheats.html

But I am not sure how much and if they can do it as I have heated seats and side air bags.

Additionally not to sure I want my seats being taken apart while the car is under warranty.

Just buy a motorcycle if you want a lot of ventilation in the summertime.
