CVT2 custom programming
Just wondering is anyone has heard of a way to reprogram the CVT for either better performance or better MPG? I haven't found anything yet.

I wish that I could and yes there has to be a way to do it. I have one of the early models that was reprogrammed with the TSB for Launch Performance / Driveability Enhancements which also included Fuel Economy/Performance Operation Feature. The reprogramming can only be done with the StarScan tool with a program that the dealers can download for now. Obviously the factory can rewrite programs to change whatever they want.
I have high hopes that someone will find a way to connect our own scan tool and maybe even change programs on the fly or create a batch file to run the AutoStick programming on a shifter conversion. It would be sweet to run one program climbing hills/mountains, another for long flat hauls over the freeways, another city driving, etc, etc, etc.

Gramps, my thoughts exactly. I'd love to have one program for Max MPG and another for more spirited driving. There should be no technical reason why this cannot be done, but getting your hands on the proper tools and programs might be difficult.
Back when I owned my 67 Bug I was looking at converting it to EFI using the MegaSquirt and MegaJolt projects. Those homebuilt ECUs have dual banks that you can program for different applications and change with the flip of a switch. What I'd really like is something like the Banks system for diesels that uses the PDA as a control units and allows you to make adjustments on the fly. |

I'd love to have something like that for my trip this summer! I'm going I-40 to Reno and then up to S. Oregon to bring back my last car that's out there. It'd be nice to get some great mpg on 40 and then some real power pulling the passes at Salt Lake City and Reno threw N. Cal and Oregon. I figure if gas goes up another $.50 a gal after Memorial day the trips gonna cost me an extra $125. I'm not looking forward to the drive back pulling the car until I get past SLC. I'll be at about my weight limit, it's just a rolling chassis and empty body shell, still not fun.
