Hi all, we have been happy with our 2012 compass (2.4L) so far for it's first 40,000 miles. Recently went on a long trip with hot weather. CVT overheated both down and back at about 300 miles. Was in left lane and had very little room to get off road, resulting in a terrifying and very unsafe situation. We did stop for a meal about 100 miles before both overheats. Gas mileage was less than 20 MPG. We do this trip once or twice yearly in the summer, so I need this problem resolved.
Took the vehicle in for service, got it back today. They did nothing, said no codes were thrown and fluid was fine. I was told it is a "safety feature" to save the tranny in that situation, and shown the paragraph in the owners manual reffering to this. I don't see this as an acceptable feature on a vehicle with 42,000 miles.
I also don't remember that being in any of the commercials...
Anyway, I am guessing that was added to the literature due to this being a frequent problem, and they just kept using the same CVT... anyone know?
Has been stonewalled on this, and how did you resolve it?
Also are these trannies being replaced, updated, etc.
Thank you all for your time and replies!
