CVT issues

at 3,000 rpm...CVT "acts" like it is hunting a gear...hesitation and then it "catches."
So. Electrical or mechanical...any ideas out there?
Before I head to dealer...hoped to hear from one or two with same experience.

This has been our only complaint about our 07 Compass. Going up a hill or starting to accelerate and as soon as it hits like 3k it drops down and then goes back up again. Irritating as all hell.

The CVT runs from the 'gear ratios' relative to speed, not from the engine rpm. Don't hold back on the throttle if you want more speed, the engine will catch up with the transmission. Also since the trans learns your driving habits it may have learned them wrong. Try disconnecting the battery for about half an hour to reset the computer and start over again.

Thanks for the heads up. We got it used last year and yeah I don't think we ever had the power off long enough to relearn the transmission. Oldest trick in the book.

I'm still disappointed that it's not an autostick one, but everything else was right for us. Too bad that conversion didn't pan out.
