Crutchfield radio harness no good?

I had an installer look at my car today and he told me if I buy a

Pioneer DEH-P3900MP head unit

from Crutchfield.com that it would not work with the harness that they supply you with. This is the harness:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-J9PGEY8...6502&s=0&cc=01

It costs $14.99.

The installer told me I would most likely need to buy a different harness that costs $100. Is he correct or will I be able to use the free one that Crutchfield supplies? Thanks.

Ask the live Crutchfield support guys, they seem to be extremely knowledgeable about that stuff.

That was my first thought but I figured if the website tells me it'll work they'll just tell me the same thing. I'll call them this week though just to see. Thanks.

I went to a car audio place once....they screwed me. Needless to say I would never trust a local place to do any work for me, I would trust crutchfield for the parts and do the work myself. If you want to talk to someone local always try best buy, the kids that work in the one from town use to work at one of the audio places in town and don't talk very highly of them.

The local place might also be thinking about the steering wheel controls where you would need to get a box to keep control of them...and maybe anything else if you have uconnect of sirius.

Crutchfield has assured me that I will be able to use the harness they supply without any problems. Two different car installation places have assured me that I need a CAN BUS harness which doesn't exist yet for a 2007 Jeep Patriot. The installation places told me that the crutchfield harness might work but I would have problems with my check engine light and other things if I don't use a CAN BUS harness.

Has anyone had an aftermarket radio installed yet?

edit

After doing more research and reading more posts here I think I'll be keeping the standard radio for now. I'm still going to install my aftermarket speakers, amp, and sub, so hopefully there won't be any quality loss by keeping the standard head unit.
