My 2008 Compass seems to have the same issue. It was manufactured in October, 2007 so it would apparently not be covered under this bulletin. Has anyone else had this same issue with their 2008?

We have a 2009 Jeep Compass with a rotted Rear and Front Cross-member. Not covered under our Lifetime Maxcare warranty so I called Jeep and they indicated that they noted our concerns, however, there wasn't anything they could do about it. $3000 repair at the dealership. Vehicle still there now, unsure what to do....

I have a 2009 Patriot. Last summer I had to replace the front cross member. The dealer wanted $700 for the part and about the same to install. I got a good used one at the recyclers and my local mechanic installed it for about $375. Also had to replace ball joints and tie rod ends. mileage at that time was 85,000 miles.

2009 Jeep Patriot Front and Rear Crossmembers Rusted Out

My 2009 Jeep Patriot has rusted out front and rear crossmembers as well. Brought it into the shop because I was hearing knocking noises coming from the driver side front end. Thought maybe it was a broken sway bar link, but no. Just crazy perforations caused by rust and leading to creaking as things break. Contacted Chrysler about it and pointed out that the 2007 Patriot was given an extended warranty (10 year) for this exact same problem. Chrysler offered no help or guidance. Filed a formal safety complaint with NHTSA as this rust means that the crossmember could crack apart at any time, leading to my engine dropping out, among other things. It's an accident waiting to happen. Shouldn't be an issue on a 7-8 year old and well cared for vehicle. Chrysler Jeep needs to step up and make this right.

Hey I was going through the forums and found that others have had the same issue with their 2009 Jeep Patriots. I just purchased one and put it in to be certified only to find the front sub frame was toasted. I called the local Jeep dealer and gave him the VIN and he said nothing can be done. It seems a bit much that this is such a common issue and Jeep doesn't cover it.
I tried PMing JeepCares my VIN but since I have not made 15 posts it told me I couldn't. Any advice you can give would be very appreciated, Chris

I have the exact same problem! Mines a 2008 Compass and the K frame is completely rusted on it with gaping holes. I was hoping to find a recall from Jeep but I haven't found any so far. Mine was also built in 2007 so I wonder if they used the same K cross member and subframe from the 2007 model.

I paid $3500.00 for the Jeep. The dealer subframe cost me $800 and remove/install was $594 with tax totaling $1575.22. In total it cost me $2288.36 to get it certified. There were other issues some of which were caused by the weakened subframe. I had it appraised before the work was done. The appraiser said he'd give me $500.00 for it. Still I paid $3500.00 and guess which the Government made me pay tax on? The amount I paid for it!? That was another $487.00. Now that it is in proper shape I'll be keeping it because despite the hurdles this thing drives like a dream!

Hello Chris,

The PM did not go through. Please call the 1-800-465-2001 and ask to speak to Lyne, you can let them know I am expecting your call. I am sorry that the PM did not work as I would have thought that you should have been able to reply to my PM.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks.
