This not as much as a legal requirement, but insurers insist.
what i´ve read about us spec immobilisier is that they are not same standart as europe ones and what car insurancies require.

Differences i know from the Patriot wich i guess will be similar to the Compass:
The headlights on US models are not power adjustable like EU versions. there is also no button for that in the Compass and i´m not sure if this could be added easely if needed.
You get a fender antenna instead of a roof antenna.
No 6 gear CRDs in the US version.
No heated mirrors
No RDS support on standart Radio
You loose your warranty.

I suggest to contact a company who does US imports. they know what and how to do it.

like the side turn markers, power adjustable head lamps would be nice. the CRD would be GREAT and better if it was auto (for the wife).

I am located in Switzerland, and for some inexplicable reason the Swiss Jeep subsidiary has decided to offer the Pebble Beige interior only in combination with a Light Khaki Metallic exterior.

Since Light Khaki is not my first choice (but the beige interior is my wife's first choice), I was contemplating buying the Compass in the US and have it shipped over (with the added bonus of a substantially lower cost even after shipping and taxes).
...
well you can check Jeep Germanys website for pepple beige interior and other exterior colors.

You can go for a limited compass and Pepple beige leather and following exterior colors:
Black, Inferno Red, Jeep green, Light Khaki and Stone white .

Those look like they just screw in, not like the Patriots at all.

Yes, there's actually just one and the same on two pictures
The hole are covered with a cap (cap visible on both pictures) and the hook usually* lies in the trunk

* needed it only once when stuck on the hill in the sand. (I had to get out from the passenger door to get it from the trunk as the driver-door was too deep in the sand )

Hi from Croatia

I am from Croatia so first sorry for my bad english. I am thinking to buy a Patriot but in my country cars are so expensive. So I am thinking about import a Patriot from USA. I have to do some modifications on the car (turn lights, rear fog light...etc.) but can save more than 10000 $. And no warranty for the car.
So I have some questions:

-Do someone know a good dealer in Miami or New York area? (I think from there will be the cheapest overseas transportation)
-What do you think about site: www.newcarfrom.us How can I check if they are real?
-Is in USA some kind of temporary registration? I mean could I buy a new car in USA, take some temporary registration, drive 2-3 weeks around USA and bring my car home? If yes how much money cost such a registration?
-Does someone has electric schematic of Patriot? I am interesting for lights circuit.

Hopefully someone from the Miami or New York area will respond on the registration questions, those issues are up to the individual States.

The only thing that I can suggest on the wiring diagrams is to get the Service Manual that you can find here or maybe on eBay.

The tow eye hook would be an issue. The US spec ones don't have them. It requires a different metal assembly so it is more than just the bumper cover...

The Compass, unlike the Patriot has the same bumpers in the front.

The CRD is not available here. That is an option that would rule out buying one here and shipping it over for me if I were in Europe. I would love to have a CRD...

The auto leveling I thought was only required for HIDs. Are HIDs required?

Also, is there a requirement for the low output parking lights?
